Termites and other structural pests eat our homes, and still others, such as fleas and bed bugs, eat us! Others, like sawtoothed grain beetles and other stored product pests, eat our food before we can. Pests such as cockroaches and houseflies simply want to live with us and feed on our leftovers. Some, such as Asian lady beetles and other occasional invaders, are just nuisances, but they can be quite bothersome when they occur in high numbers. Many species invade our homes and apartments. Some are considered pests because they feed on animals or crops we grow for food, fiber, or timber, or because they damage ornamental plants. Most are harmless, and many are beneficial, providing valuable services such as pollination, serving as predators or parasites to help keep pest populations in check, or providing food for birds and other animals. Insects and spiders are abundant in Mississippi we have thousands of species.
